PPW Not Rocket Science Gamma vs.Lto

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. . .
A small habitable world sits in a crowded belt of asteroids around a dwarf star. Scouting vessels detached from a larger force pass above in the planet's orbit. A pair of torpedo boats provide cover as strike craft make a sweep of the surface. A gunship, the Bird Dog, follows closely behind. The bridge is serving as the command center for this reconnaissance mission. Captain Goren Beaksaurus stands attentive at the helm, directing the escort vessels ahead. His formation is flying low, burning fuel to buzz the thin outer atmosphere of the planet and avoid the debris caught in orbit.
Scientists examine the incoming cartography data, revealing an abundance of silica and useful metals throughout the family of moons above and in deposits below.

Some of the fighters break off to check the blind spots of the main force. The crowded field above the planet could be hiding something, but there are no signs of activity below.

It's a trap, our cruisers can't repel firepower of that magnitude

The fleet presses on. Some strange fluctuations are detected, but it is difficult to find their source. Technicians begin a diagnostic on their proximity sensors which seem to be malfunctioning or somehow interfered with by the composition of the planet.

The anomalies vanish, leaving the crews confused. Deeper investigation of the asteroid field continues. The planet's ample moons should have the necessary elements to synthesize fuel for settling the planet. with the help of orbital refining, they could set up mines and quarries on the surface.

The ships begin to leave one by one, activating their wormhole drives and jumping to a nicer planet where there is no sand. Sand is rough and coarse and it gets everywhere. Finished matches please!

RE: Not Rocket Science Gamma vs.Lto

LtO quick question, that last necropost was mostly an easter fools but do you want to carry this match on proper? At the very least I hope you don't mind if we make a few more turns, since there is stuff going on here that I can finish fast or slow.

We should make it to page 2 at least haha.

We can keep going from here if you want, I will probably bring in new ships or figure something else out. These particular guys weren't ready for all this slow burn action and I didn't have much more planned aside from move from the left to the right of the map.

I don't know who made these asteroids and planeary surface, but this guy is great at this.

RE: Not Rocket Science Gamma vs.Lto

I think Recon/Slice did the asteroids and LtO did the surface. I vaguely remember C&C-ing the map with LtO over PMs back when we were looking for a map to use, before they decided to just mash up one of their own.

Setting that crude easter bunny in my recent post aside, I don't even remember what my plan was for this match. I'll probably just wing it for now

RE: Not Rocket Science Gamma vs.Lto

I stole the asteroids from Recon unit's map thread. All credit is due to him, I think they're pretty great. I added the desert surface and the rock formations. As a cat owner I unfortunately associate brown lumps in sand with a litter box. Without further ado, let's run this match right into the ground:
A period of time passes, weeks or months--it's all relative in the vast emptiness that is space. A second group arrives, supported by the battle-cruiser Trogdor. It's massive holds are laden with restless homesteaders, weary of the journey and the challenges waiting below on this newly charted world.

Gamma, you should wait two weeks longer, just to celebrate a full year of match's death

make it stop aaaaaa

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries The Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.

Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants - and worse.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.
-Vulkan, Primarch of the Salamanders

A small Explorator fleet exits the warp, drawn to this system by the presence of alien vessels. Work crews of servitors and tech priests begin arming torpedoes, loading ammunition and chanting prayers for the favor of the machine god.

Fret not LtO, now you have the farmable excuse you need to use your 40k ships

I'm just posting my annual fool's birthday post in this match. LtO's the one who should've waited a fortnight to match the pace seriously.

Those are either really big Fury interceptors or a really small Ark (and Cobras and Sword and what I can only imagine is an chunky assault boat).
