PPW: Asteroids at War

Credit to Reconunit for this really cool map. This match is open to anyone with some PPW ships. No limits on declaring or number/size of units. If the map gets cramped, feel free to expand it.

A squadron of mining vessels deploys from a stable wormhole in a cluster on the belt of a frontier star system. Behind them their control ship seals the opening and begins scanning for deposits of ore and signs of other ships. The sweep reveals nothing but open space. The trick to having a good claim was going out far, but not so far that they couldn't call for help later when the local color found them hauling away all the precious metals from their claimed territory. The demand for shipbuilding material was growing as Consul Dorpf called for a 3rd expansion. New annexes were starting in regions considered wild. Chief coordinator Romley hoped he would stumble on some alien species with lots of firepower. Salvage and war was far more profitable than sifting through bits of rock.

With no fancy effects a detachment of Imperial Fleet finishes hyperjump. All ships including one Imperial Star Destroyer, two Lancer frigates and four CR-90 corvettes enters normal space cleanly, avoiding collisions with rocks and debris filling the area. Crews are on full alert, but scanners are detecting nothing interesting.

Declare.

Lock S-foils in attack position

the fracturing process begins. Lasers cut through the unsuspecting planetoids, sending out clouds of rock and metal. sensors sweep over the composition and the arms of the control ship begin to collect and process the mixture. One thing is clear from the weapons fire, these ships are on no diplomatic mission from Alderaan.

ISD and part of its ecorts maneuvering cautiously in the maze of space rocks. Despite raised deflector shields, flying capital ships in the close proximity to such large object is quite difficult task. Due to extreme stress, scanner operators aren't noticing the triad of drones moving in. Pair of corvettes and one Lancer are trying to find an alternate route with less dust on it. but with little success so far. Still, sensors of Lancer are been able to detect engine exausts of the incoming drones, but ship commander decides to wait a bit to confirm if that wasn't a false alarm: the asteroid field is extremely mineral rich and therefore it's quite difficult to separate artifical objects and rich ore deposits.

With contacts detected on the edge of the field, all the ships scramble to engage them. The control ship establishes a permanent gate for small craft to begin taking their quarried materials to market.

The mining drones fire on the ray shielding of the star destroyer without hesitation, testing it's strength against weapons mainly designed for soft targets and prospecting. Behind them, the control ship and frigate move up to support the attack.
