[PPW] Stef vs Quack: deep space encounter

An uninhabitated planet silently circles around dying sun. It doesn't care about tiny metallic particles flying around or even smaller pieces of organic matter inside them. The planet just flies through the void.

A regiment of Mrrshan Imperial Space Fleet, consisiting two Leopard-class destroyers, accompanied by Panther-class recon frigate is orbitting an unnamed planet. Ships engines are active, but on minimal level, due to excessive amount of dust at low orbit. Crews are performing their ordinary duties, nothing suspicious is seen on the scanners. The patrol flight goes as usual.

Anomalies detected on the surface of ATA-1036c: sending forth discovery task force to investigate.

After dawn above the surface of an unknown world, the sky is filled with dramatic flashes of reds dark and light, so bright that it would no doubt blind any unlucky surface-dweller that dared remain. The lights calmed, and from the centre of the bloody maelstrom came the ships from hell. Six in total they numbered, enough to map and scout the planet's surface in a matter of days.

Mrrshan Empire is currently not in the state of war, however, recent reports from sector are disturbing. Pirate activity increased dramatically in a few past months, many civilian vessels were lost or damaged. Most attacks are resulted with no survivours while cargo remained untouched. No attackers were captured alive: if capture becomes imminent, pirates are committing suicide, and shortly after death their bodies are beginning to decay at incredible rate.
Several fleet regiments were sent to prevent further damage and investigate the situation. A fake distress call was generated from the system a few hours ago in order to lure pirates to the trap that is just shut.

Calm athmosphere at  the bridge of Panter-class frigate 'Redeye' erupts:
-Frrrontal optical sensorrrs are gone! Switching to backup...
-Picking strrrong electrrromagnetic echoes frrrom 12 o'clock, signaturrres are unknown...
-Visual matches video logs from recent attacks...
-COMBAT ALERT!!! - roars captain Yeozzh. He is commanding the frigate and its escorts in this mission. - Alerrrt admirrral that we're just won a jackpot! launch rrrecon drrrones and starrrt to move!

Frigate and destroyers are starting to accelerate. Destroyers are taking position between large rockzs to have direct line of sight to the newcomers while frigate covers in the asteroid field.

The final ships appear as the warp begins to close behind them. The battleships move into a defensive formation around the carrier, which takes over the role of commanding vessel.

Both destroyers are suddnly become enveloped by dense energy fields. The counter-piracy mission is also serves as a final test run for new military equipment.  The 'Redeye' sets her engines to a standby mode in order to reduce chance of detection by hostiles.

-No, sirrr. They're keeping rrradio silence.
-What about these newcomerrrs, is there something interrresting?
-Not much, sirrrr. We're picking at least two distinctive signatures from their dirrrection, one is much more massive than otherrr, prrrobably a group of vessels keeping tight formation. Drrrones are deployed but they're too farrr from them. No rrreaction on us is seen, despite shield activation on destroyerrrs.
-Okay, let them make a firrrst move. Let's guess the worrrst: what if that massive signal is one really big starrrship? Gimme more info about it. When it will be in range of drrrones?
-Well, five to ten minutes if they're not going to rrrush on us.
-Grrrr... I hate waiting. Okay. Keep yourrr eyes open, guys.

Planetary scans complete; no lifeforms detected on surface below. Planet is a Class II uninhabitable world; abandoned colonies are of uninteresting origin. They are not here. The Search will continue on other worlds.

But the task force is interrupted before they could make preparations to leave.

Heat signatures detected forward from our location; devolving command to autonomous ship nodes.

Without delay, three of the ships move forward to confront the enemy, and the carrier unloads 12 "Sky Drones" to accompany them.

-Sirrr! We're picking up a bunch of new signals from these ships! Most likely, this is a missile or small craft group launch, less likely - a collision.
-Let's consider the worrrst. All ships, full combat alerrrt! We're underrr attack. Considerrr all unidentified vessels as hostile units. Good hunting!
One destroyer launches two volleys of missiles while other turns slightly and prepares to open fire with enegry weapons. Recon drones are powering down their engines to avoid destection and starting to transmit additional data to the targetting systems of all ships. With such assistance it would be easier to hit even distant targets.

-Target #2 is hit! Target #1 is hit as well... wait, explosion signature is different... looks like some missiles were detonated before impact.
One pack of missiles explodes near alien ship's engines, while other is split between large ship and a group of smaller craft. One destroyer launches another volley of rockets while other launchers are reloading.

-What? They survived a direct hit? Unbelivable.
-Nevertheless, Tarrrget #1 maintains its course, sirrr. Moreover, they seem to evade a massive barrage of plasma cannon fire somehow. According to the sensor data, these small craft have shot all projectiles down. Plasma bolts were dissimilated and lost most of their damage potential. Oh, another hit. Their frontal armor seems to be invulnerable.
One of the destroyers pushes forward and opens fire from all its guns, as well as two of three missile launchers. Other one performs an evasive maneuver, which brings a direct line of sight to a medium alien craft. A volley of missiles is launched at the newly discovered threat.

Sorry this took so long! College happened (and Skyrim... and Crusader Kings II...), so I didn't have the time to finish the turn.

The enemy vessels continue to barrage the front of the assault ship, but it's ram remains virtually undamaged by the attack.

Preparing for assault on hostiles.

The downed assault ship is not so lucky. It's innards remain on fire and get struck again by hostile weaponry.

Changing trajectory by 90° clockwise; engines at maximum.

As splattered remnants of the failed assault hurtle through space around the cruiser, it quickly and neatly performs an upward turn and increases in velocity.

The shields were no match for the cruiser's full weight and speed. With a mighty crunch, the cruiser rams the enemy ship with enough force to sunder it in two.
