The cave is not too deep, it's more like an area of smooth stone shaded by an overhang. I'm at the stage where I can start incorporating props now.

Here is the basic map, complete with cliff, sand dunes and water source. The only things needed now are details, like plant life or things under the sand, and props, like the Dogon mud huts I've been obsessing over, helicopter wreckages and inexplicable shipwrecks in the background. I'm leaving this here for anyone that thinks something should added so that they can do it and post the result. I'll start working on props now, but I would greatly appreciate it if some were contributed.

Lookin good, I'm working on some wreckages now but I'm not sure they'll fit in with an african desert since they're mainly cars :s

The only piece of constructive criticism I can give is that it it's all basically one level in a flat line, which isn't the best gameplay wise when you've got six people on one side and six on the other. All I can suggest is alternate routes.

That's actually perfect. I've been on a binge with Far Cry 2, which is what gave me the idea for this in the first place. Any wreckage will fit in.

The water seems a bit out of place, but it's not my place to judge. When I get home from work, I'll hop on IRC and see about providing some wreck silhouettes for the backdrop.

That looks pretty fantastic Rusty. My only criticisms: The cars are a bit too evenly spaced out, and the water pool is bugging me because it is too round, symmetrical, and deep. Otherwise looks very good.

If it were me, I'd add some rocks on the shore of the pond, and make the dirt around it look muddier and more beat-up, like herds of animals trampled it. Also, tall reeds, but I assume you planned that with the Foliage.

Edit: It also just occurred to me that it might be a river, in which case the above still stands, but a Bridge might be needed. If you want it to look more developed, maybe add concrete embankments.

Also a bit of weathering on the buildings. The vehicles are rusted as bitter sweet crap but the buildings look totally smooth.

I would rotate those cars a little bit and make them dug into the sand. Also to the left maybe the beginnings of a sandstone valley? I think its missing a massive plane wreck.
