Collaborative map! Guest slots are >OPEN<!

Progress! Update 2 [May 22nd 2013 8:00 PM EDT]

I've added a team list and made the post a bit cleaner. If the team leaders could pick their members, that'd be great!

Guest slots will work like this:
If a person has nothing but a single or a few assets to contribute, they may do so by filling out a GUEST FORM. This entitles the guest to submit a building, props, or environmental pieces to the project. They may work on No-Man's land which will be the center of the collab.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm getting to, either, but what if a few of us got together and made a collaborative asset? Whether it be a large map, or a HUGE army, or just a nice little piece of art. We could be assigned different roles and it would be layered in a few steps.

I think a map would be better, IMO.

If we stuck to the same terrain shape, then everyone could work on a different area and in the ned, we could just copy/paste each piece together. Then a few people could tidy up a section of the map, and that could be pieced together as well.

I tried collaborating on an army with TheL20, and our visions of the units were completeley different. Plus, it might not be used as much as a map would.

I think a map would be better, collab armies normally turn out to be mess. Plus, if it's a map we can all use it, while with an army we can't really.

ALRIGHT! So it's official then? I guess a majority of people whom posted would contribute!

I'm thinking a HUGE continental map, with deep and long oceans for sea battles, air space for planes and bombers, and plenty of land/underground for ground troops. I'm not sure on the dimensions, but I'm sure we can mutually agree.

Also, while we're here, here's a sneak peek at my up and coming FIRST map! I'm on a roll with it, now that I've developed a style.

Okay, THAT sounds awesome. A continental map where we get to bring in entire armies to fight each other. It'll be huge and maybe take a helluva long time to sprite, but maybe it could become a long running thing, something that keeps on going until the entire thing is destroyed :v:

If we do a collab map, why not mix it up a bit? Instead of just randomly plopping stuff down, we divide it into two halves, divvy everyone off into teams, and then do pw_2fort?

Not just a copy of the TF2 map or anything, just two opposing teams. Maybe have a third party make the middle so no side really gets an advantage, or leave it as a crater-scarred wasteland.

I think a grid would be the best way, but a lot of the time they end up looking a bit weird in the end. Maybe if it was just less of a grid and more of a section of the length of the map.

I added a poll, so I can properly make a large, sectioned off map.

I like Commander Evil's idea, so when we get a steady amount of even contributors, I'll divide a map into sections will a no-mans land in the middle for everyone to work one.

If you want to be a team leader, (There can only be two!) you must say so! :D Team leaders will choreograph the construction of his/her team's side.

Hrrm... I enjoy leading things....

If I am chosen, my team could communicate via PM or skype, and I could make a list of things we could work on, I also like the grid idea, we could remove it afterwards, and then have it polished.

Basically, the center will be a village with Dogon-style mud huts in the shadow of a massive cliff face, surrounded by sprawling grasslands and desert littered with aircraft wreckage and other things. This is an idea that I was planning on turning into a map on its own, but I can always do that later. What do you guys think?

Ooooh.... I like! Very No man's land-y indeed! GrinI'll close the poll tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, 6 PM  | EST | GMT -5) and I'll get a timezone poll up to gather when people are online. Then, I'll do candidate choosing for teams and we get started!

I was thinking for one end, there could be a mountain or something, with a small outpost inside it, overlooking a beach. Inside, there'd be an armory, long hallways with crates strewn about, air ducts, and much more, to offer a wide variety of combat options. There'd also be a small pond near the beach, and a confusing cave system underneath.

I think that maybe that some people should work on making the main parts of the map, and others should be tasked with meshing the parts together so that it all fits.

This is what I'm thinking tha map could be based off of.

The two.... lumps, would be the main parts of the map, like a fortress, crashed space ship, town, or whatever you can think of. Then there'd be this open area, with houses, trees, caves, rocks, smaller crashed space ships, and all that fun stuff. In the middle, is the war zone, or no-mans-land. The place that each team will struggle to take control of.

I like the previous idea for no-mans-land, as well. But perhaps we could merge it with massive craters, burnt trees, chasms, and an open area where people can run at each other with swords (this makes me think of L20's loyalists!).

I'm interested to hear what else people have for ideas!

What if we have similar layouts on each side, but different environments. Like on one side the main base could be a mountain base in a forest, and on the other side a sky-scraper in city.
