Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This is, the Crystal Crusades

Spoiler: boring intro
(Jomn you can get off your ass now and make your turn :v:)

And so after countless hours, weeks and even months of procrastination, education and ignorance, a match is finally brought to you, the viewer. A match like no other (probably). A match where there are few against many, elites versus grunts, with burly brawls of magic and technology.
This will be grand, this will last until the end (no it won't),
This is the crystal crusades
[Image: AKc92.png]
And our story begins with DEM Corp. Three crystalords stand tall on top of some cargo containers. They are not here to battle, but to observe. Today they will be deciding the fates of various other crystalords, as they got about their mission. Such is purpose of these three crystalords. And as they loom down upon the soon to be battlefield they can't help but discuss what was about to happen. We don't need to know that yet though.

Heading onto the scene first is the four armed colossus, crystalord Ferrarius Gin. Hoping to rank up with the cabals of DEM Corp, he has taken this mission to gain some extra credit. Despite his large size, he is still perfectly capable of stealth, and proceeds to show off a bit of magic. By the power of the insight, the DEM Corp magic, he collapses the metal container that an Infinity Systems robot is standing upon. Commanding more pieces of metal, he fashions a crude spear at range, which pierces the robot through the chest and deactivates it. Sparks flutter wildly everywhere but hopefully nobody knows what's happened. Wouldn't be very stealthy otherwise, would it?

Meanwhile in another area another Infinity Systems robot is picked as the target of a stealthy attack. As it goes about its daily processes it suddenly falls victim to a lovely illusion. A living being would panic, but a robot without great intelligence would cease to comprehended what has happened. A black and white world drapes itself over the robot's senses, dulling them. Even a tin can can hallucinate.

Fortunately the tin can is soon broken free of the illusion, by deactivation. Leader of the mission squad, the angelic crystalady Ella Hecate arrives on scene as well, flying forward at high speed with magic flames trailing behind her. Unseen by the robot, who has been disarmed of his weapon and has had a hand singed, he is skewered like a kebab by Ella's crystal spear, head sheared clean off. Poor thing.

And as the attacks that have granted entrance into this province of Infinity systems are over more of the squad come by. Spilt into two they make their way. An elite sentinel woodbot flies over to his leader, the rest will be on their way shortly. On the other side of the area, Ferrarius turns around to meet an elite officer and his deputy leader, the crafty crystalord Loki Kalidin. While Ella is the main commander of this squad, Loki is acting on her behalf for his part of the group.

And exactly what's happening you ask? Well it's simple. Infinity Systems have stationed a large group of units to guard some crates. These crates contain crystals, special crystals. One that can empower electrical devices with great amounts of intelligence. Lead by a  commando unit stationed at the bottom of tunnels and cladded in black, they wait for its transportation. CO-0859:PROMETHEUS may not realise it, however these crystals contain hidden power. Power that DEM Corp has tasked this group of crystalords and crystaladies to acquire. Both of these corporations have a long day ahead of them.

Re: Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This is, the Crystal Crusades

One of the few advantages robots have is the ability to share data feeds.  While Trios brainbots and Infinity BCUs can act upon the information at a faster rate than normal organics, they are still limited by reaction times of several milliseconds.  Commandos and centurions can process it in nanoseconds.  As the two robots shut down, the holes in the data feed are immediately felt.

As one, Infinity Systems reacts.  The centurion and the drones in the crate make a dash for the tunnel in the crate across, hoping to avoid the incoming enemy forces that have obviously decimated the assault drone above.  On the other side of the pile of shipping containers as well as the tunnels immediately below, the robots prepare their guns, one dropping to its knees and another flying up and firing its plasma rifle, hoping to melt the weak wall.

Infinity Systems' plasma rifles fire much more concentrated bolts of plasma than what would be expected, as a result, once the bolt hits an object, there is a bigger splash radius compared to a similar blob of the same size.

Down below, the clanking of reinforcements can be very faintly heard in the middle tunnel, however they have a long ways to go.  DEM Corp may want to hurry up if they want to have an easier time getting to the crystals...

Even further down, the trio of drones rush toward the stairs, while Prometheus takes a more leisurely stroll.  The centurion and its guards head further down the tunnel to receive the next shipment.

As said previously, one of the few advantages robots have is the ability to share data feeds. DEM Corp's woodbots and crystalords share a similar advantage. With their units being controlled by neurocomputers instead of electrical computers as is the apparent norm, this shared data feed would be more like synchronized senses.

Essentially all woodbots, and their natural born crystalord leaders, can share each of their senses with one another via what is best described as a psychic network. With reaction times comparable to a robot, but with greater information handling, DEM Corp units can instantly inform their peers of the situation by simply staring at the problem at hand.

So with a good few people on the other side noticing the bolt of plasma hurtling towards Ella, she nonchalantly swivels round to face it, waiting for the wall in front of her to disintegrate. It should be noted that aside from being an extraordinary warrior, Ella is also a skilled crystalady. Unlike the more weaker woodbots, crystalords and ladies are "volunteers" who have opted for a cybernetic transplant into their crystal like body. She's already thought out numerous scenarios for what could happen, what will happen.

And as the plasma bolt hits the weak metal wall, a good deal of spreads out, destroying the wall almost completely. While it appears rather boring from this side on perspective, a whole wall has just disappeared. Stopping the remainder of the plasma that wasn't expended is a psychic barrier. A fundamental yet unique ability of certain crystalord factions, it easily denies the bolt from travelling further; plasma isn't exactly suited for piercing through things. Rather it melts through them, something that won't work here.

With her attention caught, and a hole to return fire, Ella drops the Infinity Systems weapon she's holding. Having thought about it for a bit, she wondered how it worked. Was it simply just a pull of the trigger or was there something more to it? I mean there normally is.

Ella wasn't really too much of an expert in foreign customs, though she did keep up rather extensively with weaponry, in particular with firearms. Her sister Eva was however quite the archive on foreign matters, or any matter in fact. Ah Eva, that bitch. Such a wilfully astute woman, that she possessed both respect and abhorrence towards.

With a hand now free, Ella fires off a bolt of her own. A ethereal glowing fireball blasts forward in a linear direction, heading towards the flying robot at a brisk pace. Deciding that stealth is pointless now since her presence is known, Ella decides to make a flashy appearance. She was never one for espionage anyway, mastering other forms of combat and magic skills instead.

Thus this fireball is sure to give a suitable "bang" when it hits its target, they'll be a decent explosion from this, or at least a lot of flames. It's compressed and probably quite volatile.

Meanwhile Ferrarius and Loki watch on, through both their eyes and Ella's. Thinking to themselves what was she doing, that she'd attract more attention they just helplessly look on. Instead they decide to just sit back and wait for the fight to come to them, they have the high ground after all. Plus if they're lucky maybe the entrance will be a little less fortified due to the soon to come ruckus. Wishful thinking but still.

Though they hate to admit, Ella could easily best the two of them in a fight, though Loki's skill in illusionary techniques does come close to Ella's at times. Although there're limiters on her current body...
Oh well, they'll just sit back and take a stroll to their objective, and watch Ella's pretty firework go boom!

Re: Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This is, the Crystal Crusades

Ella was sort of right, Infinity Systems guns are fired using the trigger, nothing more, nothing less.  However, one must activate the gun with the correct electrical signature to actually use it.  This is to prevent someone raiding the armory for guns.  After that, anyone can use it.

Before the fireball hits the drone, it manages to not only fire back some plasma, but get a good long (in relative terms) look at the assaulting forces.  DEM Corp.

The bolt explodes in a bright ethereal explosion, ripping apart the robot easily.  Were this an organic force, those below would probably be panicking at seeing their comrade explode in what would be a visceral display of gore.  But these are robots.  They don't give a shit.

The centurion sends the three drones accompanying it as fodder to the DEM forces that made an assault drone shish kebab.  They'll probably be ripped apart messily, but every second counts.

Down below, another trio ascends the stairs.  Prometheus decides to skip the stairs, instead using its jet boots to quickly fly up the shaft.

In the middle tunnel, the clanking draws nearer.  They are still very far away, however they are coming quick.

Re: Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This is, the Crystal Crusades

Sorry about the slightly late post, school and all.
The roasted robot's remains come crashing to the ground, littering its allies. It's rather lucky none of the pieces hit anybody, these robots are probably heavy enough to do some damage by gravity alone. Its final plasma bolt was in vain though, Ella merely deflects the bolt with her spear and sends it up above her, melting through the container walls.

The elite sentinel gets in front of Ella, what good is a subordinate if you don't protect your superiors? Ella herself retracts her spear and puts it away. How? Well all crystalord's crystal blades have some sort of telescopic enchantment on them. Don't question it. Besides having a huge spear in a tight corridor probably isn't the best idea. The sentinel and Ella then wait, let's see Infinity's next move.

Elsewhere Ferrarius and Loki combat the trio of drones heading for them. Ferrarius quickly sends part of the spike, impaling the assault drone, towards one of the robots. It is sent careening towards his comrade, with sparks going everywhere, who tries to fly out of the way. Will he be successful though? Probably not. Ferrarius then cannabises a rusty metal barrel, his moderate proficiency in metallic manipulation allowing him to form a make shift shield around him. A counter attack is imminent.

Loki meanwhile displays one of his talents, combat puppetry. Conjuring ethereal green ropes he drags up the downed assault drone and makes it his toy. Not bothered with how the rifle it wielded works, since it probably wouldn't given its owner's deactivation, he simply has it pick up the remains of the spike that it was impaled by.

Some crystalords in the cabal that Loki is a part of choose to use their own puppets, Loki however prefers to take control of any fallen enemies, and have them use crude weapons like the crumbled metal blade the assault drone has. Unfortunately the creepy intimidation factor of doing this is futile against robots, a punch to their tin can heads will have to do instead. Loki's still got some of his own puppets though but why waste them?

The middle drone is struck by its speared comrade, knocking it off balance.  The aforementioned speared robot crashes into the IKEA shipping crate, its body rather humorously sticking out.  The one in the container below fires its laser rifle, melting part of the makeshift shield Ferrarius put up.  The weakened beam hits Ferrarius, hopefully causing some damage.  Laser are great against fleshbags and metal, against crystal, not so much.

Prometheus meets the trio in the middle tunnel.  They wait for the reinforcements to arrive, which would be rather soon.

In the bottom tunnel, the last shipment of crystals arrive, along with its escorts.

Re: Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This is, the Crystal Crusades

A turn at last, better late than never , now back to revising for me...
Had the actual laser beam hit Ferrarius, it might of actually caused some damage. Thankfully his magnetic powers granted by the insight have spared Ferrarius of what would have been an ugly hot mark on his forehead. His crystal body quickly cools down from the minimal heat that he received. DEM Corp crystalords are built tough, they are volunteers who gave up their lives for this.

Their crystalline, though technically ceramic under chemical naming conventions, bodies are both durable and powerful. Puny bolts of plasma and laser won't do much but get rid of some of their self esteem. Either more firepower or more better strategies will be needed. Good thing Infinity have plenty of robots to spare, and hopefully plenty of brains to think up plans in their current environment.

Ferrarius is however pissed. That stupid robot just shot him while he wasn't paying attention. He should been more focused, but ah well. Guess he'll deal with him now. Jumping down he gets out his battleaxe. It's currently in its condensed form, numerous advantages come from this; for one it's more compact, and when he expands it via the mass displacing enchantment that all crystal blades have, it could bring quite a surprise towards the laser rifle robot. Along with deactivation.

To ensure success, the same robot has had itself pinned down. In his anger, Ferrarius did not aim his attack very well and the ferromagnetic forces he possess only managed to have one shard of metal embed itself in the robot. It's probably been immobilised though. Just in case of any retaliation, since its arms are still working, Ferrarius brings up a crystalline wall, with some spikes for good measure.

Nearby, the robot hurtling out of control, continues to hurtle out of control. His fate will not be pleasant, but maybe he might be able to save himself from a stereotypical explosive death at the hands of some petroleum fuel in the can at the bottom of its destination. Those wooden crates might be a better option, if it can alter its trajectory in time. Jetpacks do pack quite a punch in them after all.

Seeing that their superiors might be in need of help, the elite woodbots rush to their aid. The elite officer leaps into the air, he had previously been staring at his slowpoke comrades. Ella was doing the same, waiting for the rest of her squad of woodbots as well as Gillian Amani to arrive.

As the officer glides through the air, he brings out his crystal blade, a backsword. Empowering it with the insight, crystal spikes sprout from the blade. They'll do plenty of damage, if they hit. On the other side, the elite sentinel drops down, and unsheathes his blade. The katana is bathed ethereal flames. Hopefully it should be enough to stop any plasma and what not that comes his way.

While woodbots aren't as tough as their superiors, who are typically cladded in materials like enchanted sapphire and diamond, they are still pretty strong. Their cellulose based polymer is comparable to kevlar, with magic too. However enough force and they'll... Regardless the sentinel charges forward, propelled by magic flames coming from his feet. DEM Corp had messed around enough, it was time to get serious...

Re: Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This is, the Crystal Crusades

The out of control drone manages to redirect itself toward a wooden platform, which is decidedly better than a petroleum can.  Another advantage of robots.  Humans would be panicking, robots are calculating.  It fires a plasma bolt at Ferrarius's exposed backside.  Behind it, the stray plasma shot from earlier weakened the wooden support, causing the crate above it to fall.

The other drone stands its ground against its obviously superior foe.  Don't mistake this for courage though.  The robot is simply carrying out its order.  The laser beam manages to bury its way quite a bit through the shield, however it is stopped.

On the other front, the assault drone is the only one to react to the officer.  It levels its railgun at the intruder, and fires.  The railguns carried by assault drones are powerful, able to punch through more than six feet of solid concrete, separate the pour soul behind from his entrails and go through his companion several yards away.  Needless to say, the results aren't pretty.

The slug effectively disintegrates the woodbot officer's upper body, to add insult to injury, it is barely even slowed.  A minor victory for Infinity Systems.  Even with heightened reactions, trying to dodge the railgun slugs would be like trying to dodge a bullet fired at point blank range.

Down under, not much else happens.  The reinforcements are close.

Re: Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This is, the Crystal Crusades

Spoiler: Reboot
And so a week and a half on the records of this assault to intercept a convoy are being further uncovered. New data has arrived, and greater time and effort has been allocated to identify and disclose this information.
Let the match recommence!
A minor victory yes, but one in which a response would only be "tis only a flesh wound!" And with gallant rage the sentinel recovers, his upper body missing yet still incoming. His battered head lies in pieces below him, but the elite sentinels cares not. Turning it around, he shows off some of DEM Corp's electromagnetic propulsion technology, firing off a magnum coilgun.

A slurry of both caustic chemicals and magnetic fragments is propelled at great velocity straight through the assault drone's railgun and into its upper body. Payback's a bitch. The coilgun rips straight through the robot, its body being further damaged by the corrosive compound that trails alongside. Pieces of metal blast out its backside, the elite had set the pistol to fire off a highly penetrative and expansive shot, acid and metal flying through the assault drone's body.

You might be wondering what just happened. Well it's simple, the assault drone missed. Or rather the assault drone missed a vital, and paid a heavy price. You see all DEM Corp units have their vital neurocomputer/organic brain stored in what would probably be the stomach region. This keeps it relatively more safer than in flimsy heads that people can take pot shots at. Plus any puny organics would be freaked out by a headless enemy bearing down on them.

Growing tired of the sentinel's games, Ella fires off an arcane crystal at the airborne drone, putting it out of commission instantly. The sentinel also waves the katana, his ethereal flames blasting the two robots below into the lower regions of the area. In the second that just transpired, they got absolutely no action in at all.

Over on the other side, similar resolutions are occurring. It seems Infinity Systems just can't quite take out DEM Corp, always verging close before having their rewards pulled out of their hands at the last second. Ferrarius has a perfect sight line of the plasma bolt behind him, the elite officer and Loki sharing their vantage of it with him. Many ways could be done to deflect this weak, in crystalord terms, attack.

So Ferrarius picks the simple way, standing still. His ambient magnetic field that he generates instantly repels the charged bolt, which explodes and falls away. This magnetic field provides great protection against multiple threats, so long as their electrically charged, like plasma or railgun slugs. But unfortunately not lasers.

Good thing the officer's on hand, nonchalantly he does a backflip and glides down. Quickly he deflects the laser using his crystallized backsword, it blasting the beam right into the head of the robot who fired it. Debilitating damage then ensues. I'll reiterate, payback's a bitch.

Unluckily for the out of control drone who fired the plasma bolt, he to gets a taste of payback, his own attack falling down due to gravity. The inert but still vaporising plasma lands straight on him as he crashes head first into a container like his comrade. Jetpack still ablazing, plasma trails off him towards the fuel canister, along with many more flaming items, I wonder how explosive futuristic fuel can be?

The officer quickly advances onwards, he's single minded and focused at the task on hand, unlike his superiors. Ferrarius heads over to confirm the sorry state of the sentinel with his own eyes, mostly because he just lost a bet with Loki over who'd be the first to get hurt. Loki finally stops being lazy and moves to collect another fallen robot, to add to his puppet collection, two should be enough for the moment.

Crystal "bugs" are inserted into their heads, they're essentially cameras. Wood like tentacles latch them to the robot's faces. It's handy to be able to see what your puppets doing when your around a corner after all. The big drop awaiting everyone is a clear example of this tactic being ready for future use.

The two robots that were blasted by the fire wave have miraculously survived. The sentinel's attack should have at least charred them quite a bit. Wonder what caused the reduction in power from the attack. Regardless Ella will deal with them if necessary, though she's more fixated on the antique gun at the moment. She's a sucker for historic artefacts, and this gun is no exception.

A single arcane rope of green energy grasps it for her. It's like the ones Loki uses, he has substantial skill in combat puppetry. The cabal Ella's belongs to does not give education on that subject however she wields just as well. Puppetry principles are similar to the basic art of using these energy ropes as extensions of one's body, whether as puppet strings or grappling ropes is not important. It's the same difference really.

That's the point, sort of. I try to be fair in every match and this is no exception. I've got a mechanic to sort it out. You'll notice Jomn talking of reinforcements. I however will have little back up throughout the entire match. To compensate I'm gonna be slightly OP. If you look at my other DEM Corp matches you'll know that these aren't my average units. They're their superiors. :commissar:

The front lines were mostly measly drones, and with elites in open space, there gonna be cannon foder. Besides one guy's half dead. Do bear in mind I've only scratched the surface of the encampment, and I still have to backtrack to get away with the loot.

Now enough excuses, basically this match is meant to be interesting with shiny effects. Not your standard grunts vs grunts.

Don't worry about the OPness.  Everything except the assault drones were nothing more than cannon fodder anyways.

As it turns out, futuristic fuel happens to be very explosive.  A proportionally humungous explosion rips through the unfortunate drone and the surrounding debris.

Meanwhile, the two drones who have fallen quickly get back up and fire a single bolt of plasma each at Ella.  Of course, given the track record of the other shots, it probably won't do much.  They're definitely dead.

Finally, reinforcements arrive.  Two shield drones along with five swarmer drones enter the scene.  Not much, but it will do for now.  Tougher guys will arrive soon anyway.

Spoiler: Notice of variation
As you can expect, a lot can change in a month and a bit. The following is a list of items that I have edited in relation to DEM Corp and this match:

Elite woodbots are mahogany coloured, the wood having minor regeneration properties. And I mean minor. General woodbot and crystalord design has been altered slightly.
Officers are now called enforcers and sentinels are now executioners
Ella Hecate and Loki Kalidin are now red crystalords, to imply more skill and leadership.
Ella now also has more "power" in general, she is the leader after all. Past turn descriptions have been edited to suggest that she is more powerful than Loki.
Puppet tendrils and mechanics have been altered slightly, not that they were really shown anyway.
Ferrarius' magnetic powers are decidedly "OP", given Infinity's current weapon loadout. He'll retain metal bending powers but the magnetic field is now a set of equipment precariously crowned on top of his head.
Sustained fire can get through the field, three railguns should do the trick. Though whether they can break through crystal when slowed down is different...
As the explosion subsides the items in the broken container fall out onto the ground. I wonder why that didn't happen with the others? Maybe that got burned or there's just nothing in half the boxes here... As for Ella she deals with the plasma with ease. Sidestepping the somewhat slow moving bolts of ionized gas. Unfortunately her antique gun is set alight and coated in hot plasma, so she simply throws back the gun using her ethereal tendrils.

These tendrils are a perplexing and mysterious ability. Granted to those learned from the Pupae Ex Sutelis, they gain the ability to create these ropes of magic. A turquoise tendril that upon contact adheres itself to and expands around and within an object. Thus complex systems can controlled with just a single string. The crystalord can even expend some energy to power things like weapons on the object. Maybe Loki might try to reactivate the robots...on DEM Corp's side...

She also throws her spear with brute strength and force. Such a uncharacteristic thing to see from a butterfly winged angel. Ella is not a sweetheart, centuries of pain, conflict and imprisonment have moulded her into the individual she is today. A person who maintains a facade of kindness yet is still bears anguish, hate and regret over past actions. There are many things about the Hecate duo that you still don't know. Ella's power was once much greater than what this locked down body of her has now.

The already weakened wooden platform is smashed to bits by the speedy spear, which is embedded in the ground. There's not a scratch on it, a crystalord's blade is often stronger than the crystalord themselves. Of course Ella's clad in red crystal so in this case that's not true. However her spear is probably tougher than Ferrarius himself or his own axe. What else can you expect from Ella?

The other drone humorously tumbles down, whacking it's head against the sandy cavern and dropping its weapon in the process. Covered in sand and wood as it falls further, it merely attempts to reclaim its weapon with futility. Descending rapidly it begins calculating its chances of survival or systematic retaliation with robotic indifference. The odds are not in its favour; he can't really fly as well as Ella. Well...a jetpack isn't that effective when you're disoriented and dented. Better act fast!

Ella then grabs the elite executioner's katana. It's not actually designed for him, but for engineer woodbots. A woodbot's crystal blade is specifically built for that brand of woodbot. Others using it may find their powers weakened. They are however fully designed for a crystalord to use them, in case they ever need an backup weapon. Of course a crystalord's own weapon is even more attuned to themselves then a woodbot's is to their own. Other crystalords can't practically use another crystalord's blade, like they would a woodbot's, without compensating for it.

So the elite gets out his actual weapon, a large flammenschwert. Enforcers use straight swords, engineers use doubled edged katanas and executioners use wavy bladed swords. Ella chastises the elite for deciding to wield two swords, he should have stole another flambard or something. The injury is also mocked, trying to get serious yet getting shot instead. At least it'll grow back, but not for a while and the crystal optic won't reappear.

Meanwhile Loki puts on a dulled but finely crafted cloak to give himself a bad ass cape fluttering effect. Gotta look cool when you fight. Ferrarius also leaps down below, using his metallic powers and his axe he catalyses a thin metal sheet into existence. Spinning with speed, it heads towards to some unwary drones, ready to slice them apart. If they survive, his magnetic repelling crown thingy should protect him. Though lasers are a sore spot...

Lastly the elite enforcer dives down, conjuring a crystal wall, to ensure the elite executioner's fate will not befall him too. With a swing of his longsword, crystal shards soar through the air and towards the centurion and his guards. While it is a big crystal wall, as an woodbot it's not as powerful or protective as the one Ferrarius made earlier. And it doesn't even come close to the tiny barrier Ella made.

A few pinpoint bolts of plasma or some sustained laser fire will break through it after some hassle. A railgun will likely shatter the damn thing in a second. Heck even Ferrarius would have trouble blocking a railgun slug, without his repelling crown. A lucky shot would hurt him badly. Only Loki and Ella have the actual capability to defend a railgun slug, and only Ella can realistically dodge a railgun. A testament to how much the red crystalords outclass their subordinates, and indeed how far apart Ella is in comparison to everyone else.

There's still a long way to go, but hopefully Infinity'll keeps up this cannon fodder defence. That'll make things a lot easier. One can only hope. Ferrarius issues a statement of good luck to his companions. Akin to the words "may God by with you", but with a more modern design. Deities after all represent both power and deception. Loki echoes the sentiment somewhat; on the other hand Ella curiously derides it, with sweet bitterness and a joyfully mocking chuckle.

Not everyone's faithful, but Infinity could sure do with some faith or luck to get through these hard times. The battle's are only just beginning, for both organizations...

Spoiler :
We're Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack :tophat:
Unfortunately for Infinity Systems, the only one in the immediate vicinity capable of actual thought much prefers cold harsh logic to faith.  There is only one commando in Infinity that actually gives a shit about faith, and that's because of his unique beginning.  But that's a story for another time.

The shards mostly miss, and the centurion is able to hide behind the sentry.  One hits the kneeling drone in the knee, and another scores a critical hit and imbeds itself in the unfortunate robot's head.  While it's not permanently disabled, the drone is effectively lobotomized.  Unless someone ASSUMES DRIRECT CONTROL, it's a sitting duck.

The shield drone activates.  Using technology stolen procured from the Aquatus Empire, the shield projects a one-way barrier.  While this wall is probably not as strong as any of the crystalords' shields, it is still capable of taking a pounding.  The swarmer drones open fire, unfortunately as their guns are as strong as a pistol, they won't be able to do much damage.

On the other front, the melted slurry that is the unfortunate gun coats the upper body of the robot, reducing it to slag.  Behind, the spinning saw that Ferrarius summoned bisects the standing drone and embeds itself into the back of its companion.  Below, gravity asserts itself as the drone smacks into the pavement.  While the fall would be enough to kill a regular old human, Infinity Systems drones are built (somewhat) tougher.  Of course, the impact jars the bot enough that it temporarily shuts down to prevent any further damage.  The others just stand there.  And stare.

Prometheus decides to head to the subway.  It knows that the current forces it has won't stand a chance against even one of DEM's crystalords.  But it only needs to delay them.  If it can keep them here down in these tunnels for a bit longer, then the hammer will come down.  And not even Xian would be able stop it.

Well you did give me that WIP stuff before in that pm right?  Normally it would've taken a week for this to be done. :v:

Re: Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This is, the Crystal Crusades

Spoiler: Still chugging along
So Jomn. You seem to be putting out turns at a daily pace, in your other match.
Time to put a stop to that. :smug: Walls of text and special effects requiring en route! :tophat:
And for everyone else that I'm in a match with. It's coming...Eventually...
The pistol shots are easily repelled, while the plasma actually does a fair chunk of damage to the crystal wall. Enough that the elite enforcer decides that its integrity is now compromised. Absorbing the remaining crystal magic back into his own body, he leaps over the blobs of plasma, still sizzling away, and begins doing rapid somersaults in the air. Converging towards the Infinity robots at a rapid pace, the elite armours himself in a coating of crystals. With the aid of his angular momentum, crystals are also released from his back at high speed.

Though a few shards are unlikely to break through, spray and praying is perhaps more viable. Of course in a battle of robots vs woodbots there isn't much praying at all. Calculated responses are being made even as the woodbot flips and flips. Although unseen to Infinity, the elite is also charging up a large quantity of magical energy into his longsword, size temporarily reduced to not impede his acrobatics. What could he be planning?

Robots thoroughly bisected, Ferrarius heads over to follow the elite enforcer. Running upside down along the roof of the sandy cavern, he also conjures a crystal shield to protect himself. While thinner than the enforcer's coating, it offers much better protection. The duo run, melee weapons at the ready. Maybe it would have been a better idea to bring some more ranged firepower, but they are still on schedule.

Loki joins in on the reckless charge too, but from a safer angle. Landing on the ground, he directs his puppets to head for the shielded Infinity robots. How well broken and jagged pieces of industrial grade metal will fare, against high tech alloys and what not is quite obvious. Loki is a skilful puppeteer and not to be taken lightly, even when he looks to be unmoving and harmless. That's often when a crystalord is the deadliest.

Over on the right side, Ella watches the drone smash itself into deactivation. Funny she thought they could fly. It then have a rough trip down there, it's likely its jetpack is out of commission. Ella's wings are the other hand are perfectly fine, and could repel a bolt of plasma, if she wasn't partial towards keeping them neat and cool.

Now here's where things get a little bit too unrealistic. Ella's no ordinary woman though, but the rest is to be told later. With phenomenal speed, she swoops down into the caves below, and grabs various items with the puppetry tendrils and her own hands. Multi tasking made easy. The flaming barrels and a barrel of that explosive fuel are gathered.

With inhuman strength, characteristic of any cyborg, Ella crushed the barrel ever so slight so its contents slowly leak out. No wasted movements, she throws all the items down at the large squad of robots below, before retreating and plucking her spear from the ground. While there's no plasma to catalyse a large explosion, she's hoping that: either some will be foolishly fired, or it'll still make a decent firework.

There is another barrel below after all, got to make good use of the environment, and Ella is definitely good at coming up with her strategies. She's learnt from the very best, and is one of the best herself. In theory she could take on this entire group by herself, in her locked down state, and come out victorious. In just a few hours. Probably with nothing but a few scratches and maybe a broken hand. But let's leave that bit out. However the mission must be over within the hour and so that's why the rest are here. The prize is the crystals not a robo-slaughter. Though cannon fodder certainly makes the job nice and easy.

The clanking sounds that resemble robotic movement are once again heard, but from the right side. It seems there may be reinforcements for DEM Corp too. Perhaps Gillian Amani will finally make an appearance. The pompous brat, tardiness and a fat wallet are his main traits. Wood, ceramic and crystal lurking in distance, how long till they appear? This long:

Re: Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This is, the Crystal Crusades

Spoiler :
Screw you Gamma!  Screw you for forcing me to sprite a fucking explosion! GraaaghI had everything else done a few days after you posted, but you HAD to make me draw an explosion!  /rant

Anyways, summary of this turn is DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA BOOM
[Image: SDePIM4.png]
The shield manages to hold against the onslaught of shards, however a few manage to get through the upper region, one of them spearing a swarmer drone.  It is however weakening.  It won't be long before it falls.

Those behind unleash a veritable storm of bullets.  Three bolts of plasma fly toward the incoming woodbot, and the sentry bot unleashes twin storms from its miniguns.  The centurion however takes a different priority, aiming at the puppets behind the enforcer, and fires its railgun rifle.  While not as powerful as the assault drones' railguns, it is faster to fire.  The first shot disintegrates the running robot's leg, slicing it like a hot knife through wet paper.

Down below, the explosion rocks the subway.  One can always trust Futuristic Overly Explosive Fuels Corp. to deliver a ridiculously huge BOOM.  A single robot and the sentry are able to escape, however the others are not as lucky.  The force of the explosion is enough to dent the pavement of the subway.  Prometheus regards the destruction neutrally.  While DEM Corp. has arrived at this front slightly earlier than expected, it does not matter.  Even if they were to destroy it and get to the crystals, well, that would be telling wouldn't it?

The second wave of Infinity Systems is arriving soon, three times larger and more powerful than the first.

Gamma Vs Jomn - Magitech vs Science - This still is the Crystal Crusades

Yeah this is another one of my infamous extra long turns, as in needed four spoilers long.
Feel free to pack a small lunch or take a break if you want, the turn output these days is slow enough after all.

Now then, with my first match post in two years, I declare this match active once more!

Spoiler: Returning introduction, and accidentally ranting
The last turn posted for this match was Valentine's day three years ago. So it's been a while to say the least.

Now anyone who's been paying attention should realise that this match has been fraught with delays, but hey quality over quantity they say. At least that's the idea but I'm two years rusty on spriting and turn descriptions so this turn probably isn't going to be my best work.
For that I apologise.

Not that it's too important but I spent a while re-reading my old turn descriptions to both remember how I used to do this and to look out for missteps in my past writing technique.

There's probably gonna be a few subtle changes in my writing style, for those who even remember, since it's you know been years. For better or worse, who knows.

Admittedly this post's gonna be quite bloated regardless since it's been three years and I need to cover a lot of things first, both new fluff, but also old lore reminders.

Still I stand by my previous goal of encouraging you (few who remain) to write turn descriptions that aren't merely brief sentences (or sentence) or even a short paragraph, since to me PW is about both the image and the description.

Indeed if not much happens then feel free to write up some lines on the history or information of certain things about your army that may be relevant to the match (could even be for foreshadowing).

If a lot happens, then summarize the unimportant points, and then try and paint a written picture in our heads for the main ones, which adds extra to what we can see in the turn image.

You don't even have to write lots, indeed exceptionally bloated turns are a sin that I've committed a lot in the past, but at the same time seeing anorexic descriptions is almost as bad.

Lots of words is likely my domain (you're welcome to try too), it's how I've written for years. I'd just like to see more effort on what sets PW aside from any other pixel art website.

So please try and put some more effort into a pleasing, less clinical writing style, whatever size or shape you prefer.

(Krutzel I'm digging the short saga style turn descriptions your vikings have. Really gives that Nordic feel with how your prose is done. Nice work.)

(Shit, this sorta got ranty...sorry.)
Spoiler: Three years worth of a match communique
Now of course there's the match updates docket to consider. You can jump straight to the turn if you want, but if you're on this forum as it is now then you've probably got enough free time to read a few extra paragraphs. I won't hold it against you if you don't though.

First off you'll note the pretty huge sprite and palette changes; the woodbots are just the updated versions from two years ago, but the crystalords have been heavily revamped. See here for extra info.

In summary:
Everyone gets clothes. Or at least something to add some extra flavour/character to them.

Loki's design is nearly the same as last time (not that you'd know from the current turn), he's just more blue tinted now.

Ferrarius now looks less like a black wrecking ball with limbs and more like a big dark green crystal with limbs. He also gets a neat cape, and some bracelets and anklets to go with his magnetism coronet.

Ella, oh boy lots of additions here. For both style and sensibility, Ella is now decked out in full combat armour and enchanted battle robes. Of course given the fact that she's in a locked down state, exactly who's being protected from whom is for you to speculate.

Anyway to list the changes (including a few less obvious/behind the scenes ones):

Clad head to toe in DEM Corp enchanted ceramic armour (the dark purple and olive green stuff), with armoured wings (which I've made more butterfly like) and an orange crystal helmet visor.

On top of that is an enchanted vermillion coloured battle robe, with gold and white trimming. She also gets a durable, and more importantly, matching hat (which has been suitably tethered so that it doesn't come off in flight).

And to finish things off, she's got a ceramic breastplate and gauntlets fastened on top of her battle robes for added protection, alongside a lovely purple scarf with more gold and white trim.

Ah the merits of unbridled combat fashion.

On another note, I got rid of the the whole red optics crystalords are more advanced things. If a crystalord's optics colour scheme is the same green as the woodbots they're a low ranking crystalord, if they're any other colour at all then they're an advanced one. (There's a few exceptions but they're not important right now.)

Hooray for freedom of chroma choice.

There's also some updates to Jomn's sprites, and they'll fix up the rest of them on their turn, but you'll have to wait on that.

-----------------------------------
Next off, a reminder/update on woodbot Latin names. They're mostly the same as the ones I used that one time in Propman's match before I disappeared, but I've changed things slightly, which is giving appropriate prefixes for the elite woodbots.

Enforcer - Fabrum, pl. Fabra (colloquial Brum/Brums)
Executioner - Bellator, pl. Bellatores (colloquial Bellat/Bellats)
Engineer - Munitrix, pl. Munitrices (colloquial Muni/Muni)

Elite enforcer - Fortifaber, pl. Fortifabri (colloquial Forti/Forti)
Elite executioner - Calidobellator, pl. Calidobellatores (colloquial Calid/Calids)
Elite engineer - Lenimunitrix, pl. Lenimunitrices (colloquial Leni/Leni)

If you're interested in their meanings beyond army fluff then I’m sure if you try some language sleuthing with something that isn't google translate you’ll figure it out just fine.

------------------------------------
As a side note, crystalords have had a latin name for a while too, here it is if you're interested, although I'll still be referring to them as crystalords for the most part.

Crystalord - Gemmeus Dominus, pl. Gemmei Domini
Crystalady - Gemmea Domina, pl. Gemmeae Dominae
Crystalord (gender neutral) -Gemmeum Dominum, pl. Gemmea Domina
Now without further ado, let's enjoy the match's continuation.

Spoiler: TL;DR for below
The fortifaber gets fucked badly but crystalfucks the Infinity drones behind the shield.
Ferrarius beats up an offline drone, and gets ready to beat up more nuisances.
Loki does next to nothing, his robes get all wiggly and writhe-y, and he gives a puppet a cape.
Everyone has a chat.
The calidobellator jumps down the hole and brings the fire to Prometheus. (Ah the namesake irony.)
Ella makes a makeshift mega-bow and nocks her spear as a greatarrow. Once loosed, someone or something is gonna be fucked.
---------------------------------
"Hello everyone.
Now if you're listening to this narration rather than just reading the report then I guess you too have no time on your hands, haha.

So this engagement caught my eye after the scrutopilo flagged it. Apparently there's some weird stuff like psuedo chrono-warping and metamorphic occult going on. Nothing super exciting, fairly vanilla considering my life, but I guess it's worthy of some consideration by an underling of mine.

But then I noticed that there's my lovely cutie Ella in it. So I figured I'd add in a few bits here and there for fun.

I mean a couple of Gemmea have always been clamouring on about more openness, so I'll indulge for a while.

Besides I've a surprising lack of things to do recently, despite my new extra responsibilities on top of my old ones. Maybe that's just a result of my work ethic, who can say?

I'm Stacy Hortensia, changing things up a bit, for now. Maybe it'll even get intimate later." ;)

--------------------------------

Fortifaber 1: "Hmm... Damn, this is gonna hurt. A lot. For all of us."

The falling shield is of no consequence to the woodbot and crystalords assaulting the squad stationed on the scaffold, for what is to occur next could not be stopped even if the shield's strength increased a hundredfold.

Charging headfirst into a storm of projectiles, the fortifaber's crystal armour, some of its protection already rerouted for attack, begins to fail him, his legs take a bath in plasma while an arm is riddled and sheared off.

Nevertheless he maintains composure, focusing on the task at hand. He is after all a woodbot, and a fortifaber at that.

Reabsorbing the nearby blocked crystals, he then releases several moments worth of previously charged magical energy just after slamming back first onto the dirt, his one remaining limb stabbing his sword into the ground to begin the spell.

Like most things in the world, Infinity's (or perhaps I should say Aquatus') shield has flaws. One which of being that rather than extending further down, it could be stopped prematurely by say a wooden scaffold.

Such a flaw was obvious upon sighting its use, and the shield drone pays a dear price for lack of situational awareness.

Slipping right underneath the shield's blindspot, a huge crystal outgrowth pierces forward, directly through the scaffold supports and into the torso of the shield drone, terminating it and its shield immediately.

Making a snap decision, the fortifaber also elects to break off its own melting legs, the summoned crystal thrusts through them and sends the plasma coated limbs upwards. Although woodbots aren't particularly flammable, plasma is still plasma.

The falling shield and woodbot now finished, the fortifaber lies still, battered but alive. His empty magic supply will be restored eventually, but for now he is drained and defenceless.

On the other hand, the list of things falling has not yet finished on Infinity's part. With nothing to support one side, the scaffold gives way and splinters apart from the horrific damage it just took.

Losing their footing, the Infinity units stationed begin a lovely dive back down where they came from.

To add insult to injury, the drone at the back ends up getting a backside full of fire, as a flaming barrel collides with it. The rest of the group, well those who aren't registering errors, realise that once again someone put a flame next to a jerry can and nobody bothered to rectify that. An explosive coup de grace yet again awaits those who cannot fly away in time.

Needless to say, both gravity and Futuristic Overly Explosive Fuels Corp aren't doing Infinity any favours today.

Back up above, Ferrarius rotates back down from the tunnel ceiling, his weight mysteriously having had no discernible effect on his upside footing, despite standard DEM Corp wall climbing methods being far less effective on unfirm surfaces.

Acting quickly he prepares to defend the helpless woodbot, slamming the blunt end of his axe into back of the lobotomised drone, while forming two iron disks to shred through the swarm drones that have escaped gravity's clutches.

Loki himself provides no aid, instead focusing on his puppets. The railgun slugs make it no further, one already embed in the sand thanks to Ferrarius slowing it down with his magnetic defence earlier. As the other heads to the assault drone, it sprouts out a puppet tendril which releases a copious combination of both crystal and gel that cushions the impact of the slug.

Ah this looks like a decent place to interject.

In case you weren't well informed, one of the more interesting abilities conferred by the puppetry tendrils, used by those who've learnt under the Pupae Deex Sutelis is not just the ability to remotely control or even to supply power to whatever you've taken hold of, but also to make it an additional outlet for any form of DEM Corp brand magic the relevant crystalord possesses.

This very fact means that squishy corpses or trash tools off the floor can be augmented with crystal magic of varying types, making them more dangerous than they appear at first glance.

Indeed that's probably the only reason his puppets are still carrying those scrap metal blades. To say nothing of any other potential ability (although crystalords with many branching magical abilities are generally rarer) he may wield.

After all while Loki has been a part of the Pupae Deex Sutelis branch, they are not his main sect. His first (and current one) are the reticent cerulean tinged folk of the Veritates.

He pretty much signed up out of ardent zeal; I'm not surprised given that branch's history and role within DEM Corp. Personnel file's pretty sweet too. But enough of that.

As for Loki he decides to give the assault drone a dashing cloak as well for its hard work (even though it's offline so it was all Loki's work.) The secreted crystal gel shrinks and clumps back onto the drone's hand.

Loki himself fastens his own cloak, before his back begins writhing, his cloak swelling outwards. As this happens he briefly mulls over that he has given Infinity an upper bound on his puppets' reaction times, and possibly knowledge of their ability to use crystal magic too.

All within acceptable limits, he thought.

Speaking of thought, Loki decides now might be a good time to telepathically discuss future plans, seeing as it's relatively calm (up above, down a level is a different story.) By coincidence his friend and late reinforcements, Gillian Amani chimes in first on the encrypted wavelengths.

Spoiler: Hurrah for telepathy
Gillian: "Hey guys, you doing fine? Sorry, just running a tad bit late with the courier vehi..."
Ferrarius: "Ah my friend, going to actually show up any time in the next century?"
Gillian: "Haha, well I can see everything that's happening fine, via your own eyes so..."
Loki: *Sigh* "So what you can see, Gils, is that both woodbots are a mess, and I'll bet they both bite the dust before we reach the crystals."

Fortifaber 1: "My state is not optimal, but I still have a head so please have more faith."
Calidobellator 1: "At the very least I'll emblazon myself on those scrapheaps!"

Gillian: "Wonderful. Now don't you worry Lokk, I'll have all the good stuff over before you know it."
Loki: "The last time you said that you stood Rius up and he had to surf down a mountain with an exploding factory avalanche behind him."
Ferrarius: "Thrill is not the same as fun or safe, Gils."
Gillian: "I said I was sorry."
Ferrarius: "The apology money was big, I'll give you that. But safe is when everyone has more weapons, not just you."
Loki: "To be fair, I brought a shard gun and a psionic one with me, someone apparently forgot that ranged non magic was useful too."
Ferrarius: "Hehe, my bad..."

Loki: "Still Gils, keeping a load of the armory and woodbots to yourself is just rude, but well we always let it slide. You know it won't help you if Ella goes rogue."
Gillian: "You're the one that freaked me out with her file! Bitchin' witch has an encyclopedia of rules on what you shouldn't let her do. An encyclopedia!
Anything that buys me time is good in my eyes."

Loki: "Yeah, that's why I didn't show Rius it, I don't need two paranoid time wasting friends."
Ferrarius: "Gotta admit, still curious."
Gillian: "Don't."

Ella: "Lokk, Ferrarius, Gillian, please calm down and/or zip it.
Gillian I saw you enter the tunnels a while ago, plus the shared senses go both ways so we can see you're dawdling. So hurry up with the courier vehicle, otherwise I'm eventually gonna have to alter the map after finding these crystals, since hauling them by hand is gonna be a pain for all four of us."

Gillian: "You're making staying with all these woodbots more enticing by the second."
Ferrarius: "Please, no more avalanches."
Loki: "Just be glad it takes her a whole lot longer than a split second to set it up nowadays."
Ella: "..."

Exchange over, now over on the eastern front Ella spots Prometheus in the tunnels below and decides to move things up a little. To think that a Praetorian would be so near and so little defended was a bit surprising. Admittedly what remained of its defence was likely either scrap, dust or ashes nearby.

While it's almost certain other units are providing ancillary coordination, the less people in charge the less annoying the abundance of fodder drones would be. What was that old idiom that dear Gini and Finn used, Ella thought. "Cut the head off the snake"? To be honest there weren't a lot times when it was said and there were snakes to behead, Ella silently mused.

Anyhow, Ella asks the calidobellator above her to figuratively spearhead the enemy's liquidation. Crystal flames roaring from his back and soles, the still headless woodbot dives down with haste, somewhat eager to redeem himself for the earlier combat error.

Taking aim at the retreating drones and Prometheus, he fires an acidic slug from its coilgun pistol. The supersonic round streaks forward, the first strike at the Praetorian.

The calidobellator doesn't stop there. Bringing his wavy blade in front of his torso, he swings his flambard upwards, ethereal green flames enveloping the sword. Three thin wisps of fire arc out and fly, not towards Prometheus, but in the general area around him.

Thanks to the crystal blade amplifying the attack, the otherwise weaker wisps are now more capable of damaging the metal husks that are Infinity.

These wisps won't explode like a fireball, but upon impact will pierce their target and ravish their insides with flames, destroying any vital circuitry they may have.

Should they miss and impact the surrounding surfaces, naturally they'll merely spread a wide but low flame that blankets the area. Flesh would be cooked by a minute's past, but a machine would be fine so long as they didn't spend too long bathing in the pretty eyesore.

There'll be no explosions but thermal degradation would be likely.

What is going to explode though is the final attack that the calidobellator has chucked. Swinging his lit tail, the woodbot releases a charged burst of crystal fire, his supply of magic starting to run dry.

The fireball heads towards the sentry. Judging by its size, and lack of additional charging, it'll most likely explode with similar force to a grenade or small mortar shell, incapacitating anything unprotected that it hits but not much further.

Floating down, Ella takes a literal spearhead approach. First a crystal spear skewers the back of the inactive drone that she amusingly noted earlier wasn't in time to activate its jet pack; the spear alights with crystal embers, the metal and wood surrounding catching fire too around the now permanently inactive drone.

She also throws two more spears, attached to crystal gel ropes. Embedding themselves into the ground, Ella takes her physical crystal spear and rockets backwards, scarf fluttering with style.

DEM Corp crystal magic is a rather captivating ability. There are three different types that I'm sure you're familiar with, the plain old crystal sprouting, crystal fire and crystal gel.

The solid crystals I won't go into. They're boring, and as for their composition (if you'd like to call it that) it's something that I can't be bothered talking about. Go ask someone from the Arcana.

Crystal fire is mostly just green fire, although fire is kinda a misnomer, since there's no preliminary combustion involved. The magic causes a thermolysis reaction, that induces a thermal runaway, which usually then causes a fire as a secondary result.

Now crystal gel is the really interesting stuff, but I'll keep it brief. It's quite the versatile stuff, one reason that our munitrices, our engineer style woodbots are the ones who use it.

As a gel it is primarily a liquid, which can also act as a solid. Tensile whilst able to coalesce, and also adhesive.

Not as sturdy or hard as the usual crystals, but due to a gel's properties and the fact that a user can secrete as much and in any shape they desire it is more flexible and forgiving in situations.

Provided they have the talent and arcane reserves to do so.

Now if only it let you fly, or harm stuff without having to bind and slam them against something. But that wouldn't be as entertaining.

Ella's released gel rope, also attached to her right hand, takes a shape not unlike a taut bowstring. The full image becomes clear moments later as she moves her spear to the makeshift bow, as if she were an archer with some kind of greatarrow.

Aimed at Prometheus’ face, with a secondary target of the Infinity drones behind him, Ella gathers potent magic into her “greatarrow” as a large yet still compressed crystal flame arouses itself on her spearhead.

Ella's tiny firebolt from earlier was just as strong as the fireball her woodbot companion just threw, yet the size difference is obvious. The effects of an arrowhead’s flame that's charged, compressed and larger yet is something that Prometheus will have cause for consternation.

The speed itself is something to worry too, how swift will a spear loosed by a woman, who can already throw it with such force bare handed, be?

Standing his ground unaided is out of the question, but a dodge (likely by scant millimetres) in the wrong direction will leave him with a similar fate to the bonus victims that will be his rear troops.

However if he leaps forward then he risks the weaker onslaught from the calidobellator; upon his potential survival he will almost certainly have to bear the visages of two foes, one whom would easily give him the same fate as the many metal remnants already littered around today, at a single misstep.

With the crack of wood and falling robots behind him, and the sizzling of fire to his front. Prometheus must now choose his fate.

The arrow has just been nocked.
